With wanting to eat/drink a little bit more healthy upon the baby arriving to our home. I decided to break out the blender and buy a juicer. I pulled our Oster blender from the depths of the cabinets that I need a step stool for and opened the fridge.

On  BevNerd, one of the most unique and delicious sodas I have tried was Oogave’s Strawberry Rhubarb soda. It brings a sweet strawberry and tart rhubarb flavor to a carbonated liquid.

While I haven’t been able to find Oogave lately, I did feel inspired to make this flavor duo into a cold smoothie.

Ingredients:

• 1 Cup sliced strawberries (Vitamin C & more!)
• 1 Cup sliced rhubarb from Organic Harvest (Vitamin K & Calcium)
• 2/3 Cup vanilla yogurt (Calcium)
• 1 packet Sun Crystals (Low calorie, natural sweetener)
• 3 Cups ice cubes (Yeah! Water!)

I’ve never seen a rhubarb before and I was very pleased to find them at Organic Harvest in Birmingham! I grabbed them and other produce up using an Amazon Local deal.

Rhubarbs are these interesting celery style stalks. They are usually red, but can be other colors. They are very tart, but not dry like crab apples. I like them and it should compliment strawberries very well.

I’m a total noob at smoothie crafting and should have put the ice in first instead of last, but I didn’t know how much space the ingredients would take up.

OVERALL:

I thought this was a FANTASTIC first attempt smoothie I’ve made. It was nice and tart, but not too tart. It had a nice sweetness from the strawberries (was sort of worried, because they weren’t the sweetest), yogurt and the Sun Crystals. It was enough ice, too! My wife loved it, too! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
